Luxury self-catering accommodation for 2 in the Outer Hebrides.
Nestled below North Uist’s highest peak and with views over tidal sands, our unique, peaceful location is an ideal base for exploring the Hebridean Islands.
Glaic Cottage is a traditional thatched Black House built around 1850, which has been lovingly restored by the owners to provide a comfortable welcome with authentic Hebridean character.
The holiday cottage has one bedroom, a large shower room with underfloor heating, and an open plan living room/ kitchen.
It’s perfect for couples looking for a remote escape.
From May to September we take Saturday to Saturday bookings.
Shorter stays are available during the rest of the year (minimum 3 nights).
Explore the Outer Hebrides
Glaic cottage holiday home is located on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, where rugged moorland meets beautiful white sandy beaches. There is an abundance of wild and beautiful places to visit and you can discover a paradise of nature and wildlife.
Our secluded location is ideal for bird watching. Look out for hen harriers, oyster catchers and short-eared owls, as well as the rarer white-tailed eagles and corncrakes. On the moorland you can see stags and deer aplenty, and visit the coast to look out for seals, otters and dolphins.
Enjoy a peaceful beach walk or embark on a longer hill walk, such as climbing Eabhal (North Uist’s highest peak) which can be done directly from the cottage. North Uist is also the perfect destination for wild swimming, whether in the Atlantic Sea or in one of the many lochs and lochans. There are endless opportunities for fishing, star gazing, cycling, boat trips and more!
Glaic Cottage is well placed to head north to Berneray and Harris, and south to South Uist, Eriskay and Barra.

North Uist and the surrounding islands are a paradise of wild and remote landscapes, with rugged moorland, sweeping machair meadows and breathtaking beaches.
The islands are dotted with pre-historic ruins including Barpa Langrass burial cairn, and the stone circle at Pobull Fhinn. Stone ruins from the late 18th century are also common, including a small ruined settlement up the track behind the cottage.
North Uist is one of Scotland’s top wildlife destinations. The island’s lochs, machair, and shorelines are alive with birdlife – hen harriers, oystercatchers and short-eared owls, as well as the rarer white-tailed eagles and corncrakes.
